Capitol boys soccer: Martin gets hat trick, Phoenix set up Sugar River clash

September 20, 2018

Lucas Martin notched a hat trick as Luther Prep piled up five second-half goals in Tuesday’s 7-3 Capitol boys soccer win over visiting Cambridge/Deerfield.

Martin struck early after an assist in the fifth minute from Joel Schewe. He doubled the lead 2:21 later when Isaias Santos set him up on another breakaway.

C/D would score just over four minutes later to cut the lead in half before the break.

Xander Heiman restored the two-goal advantage for the hosts in the 56th minute on a lengthy solo run.

Alex Lawrence set up Owen Ernest for a header in the 65th minute and scored off a long-range assist from Caleb Hengst 79 seconds later.

Adams Brands would find the net 2:30 later with Zair Palacios getting the assist.

“The greatest thing about tonight was that so many different names found their way to the scorecard,” Luther Prep coach Marty Pagel said. “That is true team playing.

“We played very well for the full 90 minutes always keeping possession and always challenging the opposition. I am very proud of how the guys played today.”

Martin got the hat trick in the 79th minute from 20 yards out.

Luther Prep (9-1-1, 4-0 Capitol) hosts league co-leader Sugar River Thursday.
