Diesel spill snarls Lima Road
Drivers should avoid a portion of Lima Road as crews work to clean up about 100 gallons of diesel fuel that spilled just south of Interstate 69, said Adam O’Connor, Fort Wayne Fire Department deputy chief.
The mess happened early afternoon today near Ley Road and was not related to a crash, O’Connor said.
Instead, he said, a semi driver on Lima Road noticed his fuel tank was leaking and pulled over. The diesel fuel spilled along the barrier between the northbound and southbound lanes, he said.
The fire department’s hazmat team responded to prevent fuel from entering sewer drains, O’Connor said, noting a cleanup company was en route.
The Indiana Department of Transportation and city’s sewer department were also notified, he said.
