Clorox Company to buy S.O.S. Brand
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ The Clorox Co. is buying the S.O.S brand of cleaning products from Miles Inc. of Pittsburgh.
The transaction is expected to become final after the U.S. and Canadian government filings have been completed, the company announced Tuesday.
″The S.O.S brand is a great fit with our core home-cleaning products business and, with the addition of the steel wool soap pads, we will have a leadership position in a new consumer products category for Clorox,″ Clorox chairman and chief executive officer G. Craig Sullivan said.
Other brands to be acquired include Tuffy plastic scouring pads and other S.O.S cleaning products in the United States, together with S.O.S brands and Jets soap pads marketed in Canada.
The Clorox Co. manufactures and markets the Clorox line of bleaches; Combat insecticides; Control, Fresh Step and Scoop Fresh cat litters; Kingsford charcoal briquets; Hidden Valley Ranch salad dressings and K.C. Masterpiece barbecue sauces.
For the fiscal year ended June 30, 1993, the company had net earnings of $167 million on net sales of $1.6 billion.
