Regions Bank Celebrates Black History Month with Annual Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest for High School, College Students
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan 22, 2019--In celebration of Black History Month, Regions Bank is again offering students an opportunity to earn funds to pay for their educations through its annual Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest. Now in its eighth year, with this year’s awards, the program will have awarded more than $1 million since its inception in 2012. High school seniors and college students who reside in or attend college in states with Regions branches can submit contest entries from Jan. 21 through Feb. 28.
The Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest recognizes the impact and contributions of African-Americans while providing much-needed financial assistance to students facing growing higher-education costs. In 2018, Regions received more than 7,000 completed contest entries.
“After this year’s winners are selected, more than 200 high school and college students will have benefited from the Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest,” said Michele Elrod, head of Regions Corporate Marketing. “The contest spotlights the students, but it also shines a light on the contributions of the African-Americans who inspired them. We’re proud to continue supporting young scholars and providing an opportunity for them to embrace their own legacies.”
The Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest is open to high school seniors as well as college freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Scholarships are granted in the amount of $5,000 for high school winners and $3,500 for college winners. Awards are based on the results of an essay contest, where each applicant submits a 500-word essay about how an African-American has been an inspiration in the applicant’s life.
One high school winner and one college winner are selected from each of the 15 states served by Regions branches, for 30 total scholarship recipients. Winners are generally announced in June with scholarships awarded in July.
For official rules, complete entry details and eligibility requirements, visit the contest website at www.regions.com/ridingforward. (No purchase or banking relationship is required to enter the contest).
