Two Dutch Warplanes Crash, Pilots Killed
BORKEN, West Germany (AP) _ Two Dutch air force F-16 fighter jets collided in the air Monday and crashed in a field, killing both pilots, authorities said.
A Dutch air force spokesman, Martin Zijlstra, said the planes were on a navigation training flight over northern West Germany near the Dutch border. He said an air force commission would conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
West German police said pieces of the burning aircraft were flung onto a nearby farmhouse, setting the building on fire but causing no injuries to the inhabitants.
