Brooks Orpik moved to long-term IR; John Carlson out for Friday’s game
The Washington Capitals’ blue line is poised to look a lot different Friday night and perhaps for longer.
Defenseman and alternate captain Brooks Orpik, who has missed about a week with a lower-body injury, was moved to long-term injured reserve, NBC Sports Washington first reported.
The Capitals then announced that John Carlson is day-to-day, also with a lower-body injury.
The team called up defensemen Aaron Ness and Jonas Siegenthaler from the AHL Hershey Bears. Siegenthaler skated on the third defensive pairing at the team’s morning skate, signaling he may make his NHL debut Friday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
For Orpik, his move to IR is retroactive to last Sunday, meaning he has missed four games and must miss six more before he can return.
