NATO Jet Makes Emergency Landing
SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina (AP) _ A NATO F-15 jet fighter spewing white smoke made a successful emergency landing today at the Sarajevo airport, a NATO spokeswoman said.
Maj. Sheena Thomson said the F-15 and another undamaged jet fighter escorting it under standard NATO procedure landed safely at the airport.
A NATO source, speaking on condition anonymity, said the planes were American.
The two planes, one trailing white smoke, were seen flying over Sarajevo en route to the landing.
No details on when and where the plane was damaged were immediately available. NATO launched a series of widespread missile and air strikes on neighboring Yugoslavia on Wednesday night.
