Salem man shot by police claims self-defense in prior crime
SALEM, Mass. (AP) — The Salem man who was shot by police after being pursued in connection with a stabbing says he acted in self-defense.
The Salem News (http://bit.ly/1BOFJ6I ) reports that Brock Fleming is expected to be held in prison while awaiting trial on charges that include assault with intent to murder two Salem officers.
Police say Fleming admitted to stabbing a 34-year-old man before officers confronted him. The 21-year-old Fleming claims he was jumped by the other man.
Police say Fleming, armed with a knife, said “I’m not going back to jail” before charging an officer.
Fleming’s lawyer said Wednesday that Salem police have “every motive” to put the blame on Fleming to justify the shooting.
A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Aug. 5.
