SYDNEY (AP) — An 82nd-minute goal by Kenyan-born forward Awer Mabil gave Adelaide United a 1-0 win Saturday over Sydney FC to further tighten the top-five placings in Australia's A-League.

Adelaide goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic made nine saves and also provided the assist for Mabil's goal at a rainy Sydney Football Stadium.

Adelaide moved provisionally into first place with 43 points, one ahead of the Wellington Phoenix and two ahead of the Melbourne Victory. The Phoenix and Victory play Sunday, when either team could move back into first place.

Sydney FC was in fourth place, just ahead of the Perth Glory, both also on 41 points. Only two points separated the top five teams with three regular-season rounds remaining.

Defending champions Brisbane ended a four-game losing streak by beating the Central Coast Mariners 6-1, helped by midfielder Steve Lustica's three goals.

Attacking midfielder Thomas Broich, who had missed all four losses with an ankle injury, set up the Roar's first two goals, including Lustica's first of the night from the edge of the box.

Melbourne City played to a 1-1 draw with Western Sydney to remain six points ahead of Brisbane for the final playoff spot.

The Newcastle Jets host Perth on the Easter Monday holiday to close out the 24th round.

Perth has until next Wednesday to explain to league officials alleged payments to five players, including star striker Andy Keogh, which were not included in the Glory's salary cap declarations. The team could be stripped of competition points and potentially lose a playoff spot if found guilty of the infractions.
