SHU WOMEN FALL TO L,IU-BROOKLYN
NEW YORK — Sacred Heart had a three-game win streak snapped with a 69-64 loss to LIU-Brooklyn in women’s college basketball action Monday at the Barclays Center.
Sacred Heart (13-11, 9-4 NEC) trailed by two, 63-61, with 1:11 left on the clock, but LIU Brooklyn (3-12, 2-11) went 6-for-8 from the free throw line in the game’s final minute to seal the win.
Katherine Haines scored a game-high 25 points and added nine rebounds and Adrianne Hagood scored 13 points to lead the Pioneers.
Jedyah Johnson scored 20 points and Brandy Thomas posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds in the win for the Blackbirds.
UB ROUTS AIC IN WOMEN’S LACROSSE
BRIDGEPORT — Courtney Forry had four goals and seven assists as the University of Bridgeport defeated American International College 20-6 in women’s lacrosse action at Knights Field.
Barbara Orsini had five goals and an assist and Julia Ruscio scored four goals in the season-opening win for the Purple Knights (1-0).
Danielle Kreitler of Shelton had a stellar UB debut with two goals with three assists for five points. Ava Gambardella of West Haven also scored for the Purple Knights.
