HAMILTON, Ontario (AP) _ Cuba, playing without leading scorer Richard Matienzo and reserve Augusto Duquesme who had left the team seeking refugee status, beat Angola 75-67 Saturday to win the game for 15th place in the World Championship of Basketball.

Cuba (3-5), which didn’t play in the 1990 tournament and finished fourth in 1986, used basically a six-man rotation in avoiding finishing last in the field.

Angola (1-7), which finished 13th in 1990, led 59-56 with 10:15 to play when Cuba went on a 16-0 run for a 13-point lead with 4:54 left. Five Cuba players scored in the run with Roberto Herrera, Yudit Abreu and Roberto Simon scoring four each.

Abreu led Cuba with 19 points, while Lazaro Hernandez added 15. Simon, a 33-year-old backup center forced into 38 minutes by the absence of the two players, had 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Ivo Alfredo led Angola with 22 points.
