NEW YORK (AP) _ Drew Henderson scored 19 points to lead three players in double figures as Fairfield defeated Marist 71-52 Saturday at Madison Square Garden.

Johnnie Jones and Kevin George added 14 points apiece for the Stags (6-12), who held a 28-27 halftime lead.

Tom Fitzsimmons led the Red Foxes (7-12) with 12 points. Dexter Dunbar, Andy Lake and Sean James added 10 points each.

After James made a basket to tie the score 4-4, Fairfield went on a 12-3 surge to take a 16-7 lead with 13:13 to play in the opening half. Henderson scored four points during the tear.

The Red Foxes responded with an 18-8 burst to take their first lead at 25-24. James capped the spurt with a layup with 4:21 to go in the first half.

Fairfield took the lead for good at 32-31 on a driving layup by Jones with 16:37 to play. That sparked a 12-3 burst by the Stags and increased the lead to 44-34 with 12:20 left.

Marist got no closer than 44-38 with 11:43 to play on a driving layup by Izett Buchanan. The Stags answered with a 17-6 tear and took a commanding 66-41 lead with 2:20 to play on two foul shots by Jones.
