Police seize gambling machines from Alabama church

December 24, 2018

DECATUR, Ala. (AP) — Police in Alabama say 17 gambling machines have been seized from a Decatur building that held a church and antique store.

Al.com reported Saturday that Decatur police say officers received multiple reports of gambling inside the church, which used to be a seafood restaurant. Responding officers found a large gambling operation, including a video surveillance and bell system meant to warn patrons of nearby law enforcement.

Officers seized the machines, alarm system and other equipment. Police say Timothy Keith Roberts, of Huntsville, and Donna Joanne Weir of Meridian, Mississippi, were arrested on charges including promoting gambling. Roberts was out on bond at the time of his arrest on a similar charge from 2017.

It’s unclear if Roberts or Weir have a lawyer.
