Turnovers stop Lady ’Stangs’ championship run
NEEDLES — After a stunning 14 consecutive win season in the NIAA 2A South League, the Lady ’Stangs’ basketball postseason was ended in a single-elimination tournament by a team they had beaten twice.
Calvary Chapel’s Lady Lions posted the win 47-43, eliminating Needles’ girls from a run at the championship.
Calvary led 15-11 after the first quarter, Needles stepped it up to lead 26-21 at the half and outscored the Las Vegas team eight to three in the third quarter.
“In the last five minutes of the game the Lady ’Stangs made a host of turnovers which Calvary Chapel capitalized on to take the lead in the last minute of the game,” said Needles Coach Manuel Calderon. The Lady ’Stangs couldn’t overcome the Lady Lions in that final minute, he explained.
“Nonetheless I’m very proud of this group of girls for their hard work and dedication,” Caldeon continued. “It was a great season.”
