TOKYO (AP) _ Jack Howell broke a tie with a two-run homer in the top of the 10th inning that gave the defending champion Yomiuri Giants a 10-8 victory over the Chunichi Dragons on Saturday.
The homer, Howell's sixth of the season, was one of seven in the game.
Glenn Braggs boosted his home run total to nine by hitting two homers and driving in five runs to lead the Yokohama Bay Stars over the Hanshin Tigers 7-4.
BERLIN (AP) _ Christian Welp scored 18 points as Germany upset Croatia 77-75 at the Supercup basketball tournament.
Vejko Mrsic, Croatia's captain, scored 23 points.
France beat Israel 87-75 on 23 points by Yann Bonato and 16 by Antoine Rigaudeau.
Croatia was favored to win the four-team tournament, a warmup for the European Basketball Championships which begin in two weeks in Athens.
Germany is now 2-0, Croatia and France are 1-1 and Israel is winless.
FLORENCE, Italy (AP) _ Defending 500cc world champion Michael Doohan led Saturday's qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix to capture his second straight pole.
The Australian, who won here last year, edged countryman Daryl Beattie, the current overall standings leader, by 0.13 seconds on the Mugello track.
Doohan rode a Honda, Beattie a Suzuki.
HIROSHIMACHO, Japan (AP) _ Carlos Franco of Paraguay shot a 69 Saturday to stay on top with a two-stroke lead after three rounds of the $1.2 million Sapporo Tokyu Open with a 206.
Defending champion Yoshinori Mizumaki, who shared the second round lead with Franco, shot a 71 and fell to second place.
Franco was the leading money winner on last year's Asian Tour.
NOTTINGHAM, England (AP) _ Hisashi Kurosaki scored the tying goal from 8 yards with seven minutes left to beat Thomas Ravelli and give Japan a 2-2 tie with Sweden in the International Challenge on. Kennet Andersson scored both goals for the Swedes.
The title will be decided Sunday when England plays Brazil at Wembley.
