Figi’s Hat Trick Paces Falcons in Rout of Owls
Sophomore Sascha Figi’s second career hat trick helped propel the Fitchburg State ice hockey team to an 8-1 victory over Westfield State in MASCAC play at the Wallace Civic Center on Thursday.
The Swiss forward scored a goal in each period for the Falcons (5-3-2, 2-1-2) and added a pair of assists in the victory. Senior Ricky Kramer added a goal and dished out three assists, while Michael Fretz, Kyle Hillick and Nick DiNicola each had a goal and a helper.
Freshman Ryan Murphy also scored in the win and Josh Victor and Christopher Vicario each tallied a pair of assists.
Connor McPherson also chipped in with a helper for Fitchburg State.
Sophomore Brian McGrath earned the win, stopping 22 of the 23 shots he faced in 55 minutes of action. Matthew Stephan played the final five minutes for FSU, but didn’t face a shot.
The Falcons converted five of their seven power-play chances in the game, while the Owls went 0-for-8 with the man advantage.
Pearce Vance scored in the third period for Westfield State (3-3-2, 2-2-0), which was outshot 26-23.
Fitchburg State plays its final game of the semester Saturday evening at Worcester State. The Falcons are then off until a Jan. 5 tilt at UMass Dartmouth.
