Lawrence man convicted in 2012 slaying outside party
SALEM, Mass. (AP) — A Lawrence man has been convicted of second-degree murder for a fatal shooting that followed an argument over a party.
Twenty-year-old Ismael Calixto was found guilty Monday in Salem Superior Court of killing 18-year-old Richard Bonilla of Lowell in November 2012. Calixto was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
Prosecutors said Calixto sprayed bullets into a parking lot on Broadway Avenue in Lawrence across from a house where Bonilla had been attending a party. Prosecutors said Calixto shot Bonilla in the back of the head as he tried to run away.
Prosecutors said the shooting followed an argument that began when three women were turned away from the party. They said Calixto was under a curfew on juvenile gun charges at the time and was supposed to have been at home.
