Worker injured on Lake Zumbro dredging project
A Wisconsin man was injured Wednesday while working on the dredging project on Lake Zumbro.
Zachary Kubal, 25, of Holmen, Wis., was hit by a stream of sludge and thrown into the water when a leak in a pipe blew open. He suffered deep lacerations to his face, and an injured arm and wrist, said Sgt. Kirby Long of the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office.
Fellow workers didn’t immediately realize Kubal, who was wearing a life vest, had been thrown into the water by the intense pressure of the sludge blowing out the pipe, Long said. After a minute, he was pulled out, placed on a flat-bottom boat and taken to shore, where a Mayo Clinic ambulance was waiting.
