Cicada Book Club to kick off in January

December 28, 2018

HUNTINGTON — Cicada Books & Coffee, located at 604 14th St. W. in Huntington, will kick off its store book club at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10. The theme for 2019 will be “Tasty Reads,” a selection of food-themed books of various genres. Owner Dawn Norman and barista and local food writer Dawn Nolan will lead the meetings. Meetings have been planned through June on the second Thursday of the month.

The inaugural meeting on Jan. 10 will consist of an introduction and a discussion with Candace Nelson, author of “The West Virginia Pepperoni Roll.” Copies of Nelson’s book will be available for purchase but no advance reading is expected.

“We’ve had a lot of interest among our customers about having a regular book club, and the topic of food writing was personally interesting to us,” Norman said. “We think that this will be a fun, engaging way to connect with the community and for people to expand their horizons by reading books that are all connected by the theme of food but are written in different genres.”
