Undated (AP) _ The Orioles’ sent third baseman Craig Worthington back to Baltimore to undergo tests for a sore left shoulder. He will be examined Friday by team physician Dr. Charles Silberstein. Worthington, second on the club with 63 RBIs, hurt the shoulder diving for Paul Molitor’s grounder Tuesday. He missed Wednesday night’s game. Worthington has struck out in 11 of his last 12 games for a total of 15 strikeouts, but still leads the club with a .333 batting average with men in scoring position. ... The Orioles led the AL East by two games or less for 18 of the first 23 days of August. Boston

Boston recalled Eric Hetzel from Pawtucket of the International League, where he had been rehabilitating a sore elbow. He will pitch Friday against Detroit. California

Bert Blyleven’s 10 consecutive wins matched his career high. He co-holds the Minnesota Twins’ team record with 10. Blyleven has not lost since May 20. ... Blyleven is 30-21 lifetime against Kansas City with seven shutouts. ... The Angels avoided their first-ever four-game sweep in Kansas City with a victory Thursday. Jerry Browne, one of three players acquired in the off-season trade for second baseman Julio Franco with Texas, is second among major league second basemen with a .315 batting average.
