ARE, Sweden (AP) _ Kristina Koznick of Burnsville, Minn., won the first World Cup race of her career today, holding off Hilde Gerg of Germany by 0.31 seconds in a night slalom.

Koznick, second behind Gerg after the opening run, had a two-run total of 1:29.46 down the illuminated Gastrappet course.

Koznick became the first American slalom winner on the tour since 1992, when Julie Parisien prevailed at Park City, Utah.

Sabine Egger of Austria was third, 0.90 behind. Ylva Nowen, the local favorite who won four straight slaloms this season, finished fourth, 0.92 behind.

After her victory, Koznick was hugged by American teammate Picabo Street in the finishing area. Street had the best time in the second practice run earlier in the day.
