Monroe zoo applies to get license back
MONROE, La. (AP) — Monroe’s Louisiana Purchase Gardens & Zoo could regain its exhibit license by this fall if it passes a United States Department of Agriculture inspection.
The News-Star reports (http://tnsne.ws/1lRcLEx ) the zoo lost its exhibit license this year after Clawson and his staff failed to mail the zoo’s annual renewal application to the USDA by deadline. That means Monroe’s zoo will be evaluated as if it were a brand-new facility.
Clawson said he submitted the zoo’s new application during the past 10 days and the USDA, which governs the nation’s zoos, has a 90-day period to conduct up to three inspections.
He said the zoo will have to pass at least one of the three inspections to regain its exhibit license.
