High notes

Former NEPA native Dave Devereaux recently received the Temple University’s Fox School of Business Centennial Honor.

Devereaux, a Lakeland High School graduate born in Clarks Summit, is the COO of Villa Healthcare in Skokie, Illinois.

Centennial Honorees are recognized as “the most influential people in our school’s lineage… highlighting individuals who have made a significant impact on our school, the community, or the business world at large,” according to a release from Villa.

Devereaux, who worked as a part-time, after-school housekeeper at Laurel Hill Nursing Home, Dunmore,

graduated with a Masters of Business Administration with concentration in Healthcare Administration in 1986 from Temple.

Devereaux joined Villa in June 2017 and since then the company has grown exponentially and continues to thrive, according to the release.

Devereaux is the son of Ann Davis, a Lackawanna County resident and nurse in the greater Scranton area for more than 50 years.

Super students

North Pocono Junior Alyssa Baljunas was selected for the PMEA All-State Orchestra.

She is one of only three students from the Northeast Region selected for the honor.

Alyssa plays in the Marywood String Project, Wyoming Seminary Civic Orchestra and the North Pocono High School Orchestra. She is also the pianist for Maple Lake and Daleville Methodist churches.
