Roads reopen after suspicious package report

September 1, 2018

Santa Fe police reopened street and trail access in the Alto Park area following a suspicious package concern near La Familia Medical Center’s Alto Street Clinic, Deputy Chief Ben Valdez said.

Police responded to a call about a suspicious package near La Familia clinic on Thursday morning, Valdez said, and after a preliminary investigation, decided to call in a bomb squad from New Mexico State Police. The bomb squad determined the package was not a threat, Valdez said.

Police evacuated La Familia clinic as a precaution, Valdez said, closed nearby streets and a part of the Santa Fe River trail next to the clinic. As of 12:45 p.m., Valdez said, the area would be reopened and employees of La Familia allowed back inside.

Valdez said police continued to investigate the incident to determine whether there were any suspicious circumstances related to the placement of the package.
