HAMLIN, W.Va. (AP) _ A truck carrying tons of asphalt overturned onto a car today, crushing the vehicle and killing a mother and her two children.

The accident so severely smashed the woman's Lincoln Town Car that authorities initially thought she had been driving a subcompact. The total weight of the asphalt was not immediately known.

Leigh Ann Poindexter, 38, of Logan, her 8-year-old daughter 11-year-old son were killed.

The truck driver, Billy D. Kirk, 33, of Wayne, was charged with three counts of negligent homicide. Kirk, who was not seriously injured, was released on $5,000 bond.

``The front tires of the truck were like glass. I've never seen tires so bad in my career,'' said State Police Sgt. Joe Parsons.
