Florida woman gets prison time for stealing $650,000

December 20, 2018

BARTOW, Fla. (AP) — A Florida woman who worked nearly 40 years in the banking industry has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing an estimated $650,000 from her employer.

The Ledger reports Circuit Judge Mark Carpanini handed down the sentence on Wednesday after 58-year-old Susan Gail Alderman pleaded no contest to charges of forgery and grand theft for taking money from CenterState Bank.

In an arrest affidavit Alderman claimed she was scammed by a man she met on a social media dating site who told her he needed $450,000, in addition to other money she’d already given him, for legal fees after being charged with murder for a Ukraine mining incident. Another man told her he needed $90,000.

Alderman apologized on Wednesday. Her attorney said she never profited from the theft.
