Leonard W. Papineau, 82, of Herscher, passed away Monday (Dec. 24, 2018) in the emergency room at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee.
He was born Aug. 5, 1936 in Kankakee, the son of Arthur and Blanche LaFlamme Papineau. Leonard married Berniece Schultz on Sept. 1, 1956 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Kankakee.
Leonard was a retired employee of Azzarelli Construction Company, where he had worked for 10 years. He had also worked at General Foods for 15 years and Alexander Lumber Company for 15 years.
He enjoyed carpentry and working outdoors. Leonard was a member of the Knights of Columbus Blessed Trinity Council 15032. He was a parishioner of St. James Catholic Church in Irwin.
Surviving are his wife, Berniece Papineau, of Herscher; four sons and four daughters-in-law, Doug and Brenda Papineau, of Kankakee, Dan and Marina Papineau, of Westfield, Ind., David and Chris Papineau, of Duluth, Minn., and Duane and Mischell Papineau, of Clifton; two daughters and two sons-in-law, D’ete and Robert Cotsones, of Bourbonnais, and Dawn and Mark Klonowski, of Bourbonnais; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Juanita Papineau, of Kankakee; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Dolores and Darlene; and two brothers, Lawrence and Albert.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass at St. James Catholic Church in Irwin, with the Rev. Dan Leyden officiating. Interment will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Aroma Township.
