Michigan State 28, Illinois 21
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) _ Quarterback Bobby McAllister threw two touchdown passes and tailback Blake Ezor ran for two scores as Michigan State rallied to beat Illinois 28-21 in Big Ten football Saturday.
McAllister hit Bernard Wilson with a 16-yard touchdown pass, then fired a 63-yard bomb to Andre Rison as the Spartans took the lead from Illinois in the third quarter.
Ezor, who exploded through the Illini defense for 113 yards in the game, scored on a 4-yard run in the second quarter and a 6-yard dash in the fourth quarter.
The Spartans gave up 14 points to Illinois in the first quarter, then stymied the Illini offense for nearly three quarters.
The victory improved Michigan State’s record to 2-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the Big Ten. Illinois is 4-3 and 3-1.
The Illini scored early on a 4-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jeff George to Shawn Wax following a Michigan State fumble.
George then passed the Illini into position for a 1-yard touchdown plunge by Howard Griffith later in the first quarter.
But the Spartans scored the next four touchdowns and the Michigan State defense dominated the Illini until a last-minute, 1-yard scoring dive by Keith Jones.
