Hawthorn stages 2nd-half comeback to beat Geelong
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — The defending champion Hawthorn Hawks staged a second-half comeback to record only their second win in 13 recent attempts against Geelong, beating the Cats 14.10 (94) to 11.5 (71) in the Australian Football League.
After trailing by 31 points at halftime, the Hawks booted 11 goals to three in the final two quarters and take a psychological edge into a probable playoff match between the teams in two weeks. Jarryd Roughead and David Hale kicked three goals each for the Hawks.
The result left Hawthorn and Geelong equal on points and in second place. The first-place Sydney Swans moved four points ahead with a 20.10 (130) to 9.13 (67) win over the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.
