Company to build lumber mill that’s expected to employ 125
THOMASVILLE, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama-based company has announced that it will build a new lumber mill that’s expected to employ 125.
News outlets report that Tuscaloosa-based Westervelt Co. announced Tuesday that it will build the new lumber mill in Thomasville. The facility is second in the state. The company’s other mill has been operating in Moundville since 1997.
Construction is expected to begin in mid-2019, with operations beginning in late 2020. The mill is projected to produce around 250 million board feet of Southern yellow pine lumber annually when operations begin.
State Commerce Secretary Greg Canfield says the company’s new lumber production facility in Clarke County represents an important job-creating project for a rural area, and it will provide a boost for the forest products industry throughout the region.
