School bathroom message leads to evacuation, student charged
GRAY, Maine (AP) — Police in Maine say a message in a middle school boys’ bathroom that the building was “getting bombed” resulted in an evacuation and the arrest of a 13-year-old student on a terrorizing charge.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says it was notified of the threat at the Gray-New Gloucester Middle School in Gray on Wednesday afternoon. Students and staff were evacuated to the high school. They were later dismissed for the day.
The sheriff’s office said the message was found by a student in a bathroom stall and emphasized that the threat be taken seriously. A search found no explosives.
The 13-year-old was identified as a suspect, and was charged with terrorizing, a felony. He was released to the custody of a parent. It wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer.
