HAMMOND, La. (AP) _ Southeastern Louisiana University surpassed a $5 million fund-raising goal and will be able to resume playing football in 2003 for the first time since the 1985 season.

Southeastern President Randy Moffett and others gathered at Strawberry Stadium to unveil an oversized, football-shaped graph showing that a fund-raising effort begun last year under former president Sally Clausen passed the goal.

Athletic director Frank Pergolizzi said the search for a head coach is underway, and he hopes to have one chosen by July 1.

The fund-raising plans call for the most of the money to go for football operations and stadium renovations.
