Worthy Crane Left Behind in Gate
NEW YORK (AP) _ Stewards declared Worthy Crane a non-starter in today’s fourth race at Aqueduct after he was inadvertently left behind at the starting gate when the race began.
``It was basically all my mistake,″ NYRA starter Bobby Duncan said. ``Another horse had broken open his stall door and I had gone over to instruct the gate crew member on him I wanted him to handle the horse. Basically, I lost track of the outside horse (Worthy Crane).″
NYRA president and chief operating officer Terry Meyocks said, ``We would like to apologize to the owner, trainer and connections of Worthy Crane as well as to the fans here and nationally who wagered on the horse. It was an unfortunate mistake.″
Refunds were issued on wagers on Worthy Crane.
