Floyd Melvin Murphy
Floyd Melvin Murphy was born in Seattle, Washington in 1935 to parents Erwin G. Murphy and Florence (Horman) Murphy. He expired and became an ancestor on December 7, 2018.
He attended Webster Elementary School, James Monroe Junior High and Ballard High School in Seattle. He graduated from Brigham Young University (1958/1966) where he met his wife Kathleen Keeler. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1957. He enjoyed participating in the scouts and earned his Eagle Scout award in 1949. He taught school in Provo School District, Cupertino (CA) School District and Davis County School District and was employed in textbook sales for thirty-six years. Residences included Provo, Utah, Cupertino, California, Syracuse, Utah, Puyallup, Washington, Santa Ana, California, Morgan Hill, California and Orem, Utah.
Deceased family members include his father, mother and son Greg Murphy. He is survived by his wife Kathleen K. Murphy, and 4 children, Reid Murphy (Laurie), Danell Cline (Douglas), Kristen Krieg (Robert) and Sherry Sandberg (Scott). He leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 on the way.
He enjoyed music and sports and was a “true blue” BYU fan. He always liked this thought by Garrison Keillor; “I feel sad that I will miss my own funeral by just a few days.”
Funeral services will be Sat. Dec. 15, 2018, 11:00 a.m., Sunset Heights 6th Ward, 500 S 600 W, Orem. Family and friends may visit Fri. Dec. 14, 7-9 p.m. and Sat. Dec. 15, 9-10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at the Syracuse City Cemetery, 1290 South 1000 West, Syracuse, UT. In lieu of flowers donations can go to BYU School of Music.
