BASEBALL: Central headed to regional title

WATSEKA — After splitting the Sangamon Valley Conference in regular season play, the Central Comets and Paxton-Buckley-Loda Panthers squared off once more on Friday with a little bit more on the line — a trip to the IHSA Class 2A Watseka Regional championship.

This time, it was the Comets who came out on top, turning a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 lead after scoring three runs in the sixth and holding on for the win.

Central now is one win away from their first regional championship since 2004, improving to 13-7 on the season.

After the first inning, Paxton-Buckley-Loda held a 1-0 lead over the Comets, thanks to a Mason Ecker’s RBI that plated Keyn Humes.
