Teens Sentenced in Rape of Girl
PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Two 16-year-old boys convicted of raping an 11-year-old girl at Veterans Stadium were sentenced Friday to at least four months at a sex-offender treatment center.
After four months, Juvenile Judge Abram Frank Reynolds will decide whether to hold them longer or release them.
The girl, from Freeport, N.Y., was in Philadelphia visiting an aunt when she went to a Phillies baseball game in August. After the game, the girl stopped to use a restroom and became separated from her aunt.
The boys _ who worked at a water-ice concession stand at the stadium _ offered to help, and instead took the girl to a trash enclosure and raped her. A third 16-year-old boy charged in the rape was acquitted.
The judge allowed the boys to go home for the holidays first.
``We’re very unhappy about that decision,″ said Cathie Abookire, spokeswoman for the district attorney. ``The victim is getting lost here _ her holidays are going to be filled with the trauma of that event.″
