January 13, 1999

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) _ Los Angeles Kings center Ray Ferraro underwent surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee Tuesday and is expected to be sidelined 4-to-6 weeks.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Ronald Kvitne of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic at Centinela Hospital Medical Center.

Ferraro, 34, missed his team’s last three games because of the injury, which he suffered Jan. 5 at Edmonton.

The Kings said Ferraro, on the injured reserve list retroactive to Jan. 6, is expected to make a full recovery.

The team also announced that center Brandon Convery and defenseman Sean Blanchard have been reassigned to Springfield of the American Hockey League. Convery, 24, has been playing for the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the International Hockey League and Blanchard, 20, for the Mississippi Sea Wolves of the East Coast Hockey League.
