Mississippi officer honored for preventing jump from bridge
MOSS POINT, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi city is honoring a police officer who kept a woman from jumping off a high bridge.
The Mississippi Press reports that Moss Point Police Sgt. Eric Webb was awarded a Lifesaving Medal on Tuesday.
Police Chief Brandon Ashley showed body camera video from Webb’s Feb. 1 encounter with a woman who parked her car on the side of Interstate 10.
Webb said as he stopped his police vehicle, the distraught woman got out of her car and sat on the ledge of the bridge, where she was considering jumping more than 200 feet (61 meters) into the Pascagoula River.
The video shows the seven-year police veteran talking to the woman and then quickly pulling her back off the ledge to safety.
