GREENWICH — A criminal trend of breaking into automated teller machines has come to Greenwich.
At Greenwich Plaza on Railroad Avenue around 4 a.m. on Thursday, a man attempted to break into a cash machine there, according to police. A security guard in the area responded to the commotion, and the thief ran off.
“There have been a lot of ATM burglaries in the area,” said police Lt. John Slusarz.
The machine was damaged, but entry was unsuccessful, according to police. A crowbar may have been used to force open the machine.
In Milford, an ATM machine was stolen last month. Another ATM was reported stolen in Middlefield earlier this month.
