Lasege Dresses for Dayton Game
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) _ Louisville center Muhammed Lasege, who hasn’t played in two seasons while the NCAA ruled on his eligibility, suited up for the Cardinals’ game with Dayton on Saturday.
Lasege, the tallest player on the team at 6-foot-11, was cleared to play by the school on Thursday.
The NCAA had ruled Lasege ineligible for signing a contract to play basketball in Russia in 1998. Lasege said he thought the contract was necessary to gain a travel visa and entry to the United States. He played in 13 games for a junior team near Moscow but never received any money.
The 20-year-old Lasege sought a temporary injunction allowing him to play. A judge ruled this week the NCAA was incorrect in determining Lasege’s contract constituted ``an intent to professionalize.″
The Cardinals (4-6) have been outrebounded in seven of their 10 games.
Lasege hasn’t practiced with the team since Nov. 14. He was traveling abroad when a judge ruled Wednesday. He flew back to Louisville on Friday night.
