Snubbed Teen Wounds 10 With Shotgun
MIAMI (AP) _ A teen-ager snubbed by youths playing a pickup basketball game returned in a van with a shotgun and sprayed the group with blasts of birdshot, wounding 10, police said Monday.
None of the injuries were serious, although one of the players was hit in the head and another in the back, police said. The rest were hit in the arms, legs and upper bodies.
All 10 were released after treatment at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Police late Monday arrested Eric Leon Keaton, 19, of Miami on charges of attempted first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in the incident, said spokesman Armando Villorin.
The group, which included two junior-varsity high school players, was playing Sunday on a court Sunday outside an elementary school when the youth, a stranger, asked to play but was told he couldn’t get into the game, witnesses told police.
The teen left, but returned a few minutes later, riding in the passenger seat of a small van. The van slowed as it passed within 20 feet of the court and the teen fired a shotgun twice into the group, the witnesses said.
