JOLIET, Ill. (AP) _ Doug Herbert led Top Fuel qualifying for the first time in his career Saturday, topping the field in the NHRA Nationals at Route 66 Raceway.
Herbert had a career-best run of 4.518 seconds at 324.59 mph Friday during the second qualifying session.
Tony Pedregon and Gene Wilson also topped their divisions in the $1.9 million competition, the 20th of 23 events this season,
Pedregon took his sixth top qualifying spot in Funny Car with his Friday run of 4.765 at 312.28. Wilson topped the Pro Stock order at 6.819 and 201.73.
