Slicers girls soccer ties Lakers, drubs Panthers

La Porte’s girls soccer team tied La Lumiere 0-0 on Thursday in La Porte. The Slicers Grace Holt was stalwart in net.

La Porte thumped South Bend Washington 11-0 on the road on Saturday. The Slicers Megan Blank, Erin Johnson, Jasmine Diaz, Shelby Linn, Morgan Llewellyn, Hannah Hartsburg, Lauren Pollock, Rachell Villa, Sarah Beck, Lilly Haverstock, and Holt tallied a goal. The goalie Holt had an uneventful day with only four saves, while Llewellyn tried her hand at keeper and had three saves. Every La Porte player saw the field.

La Porte boys soccer drops decision

La Porte’s boys soccer team fell 5-3 to South Bend Adams at home on Saturday. The Slicers Carlos Segovia netted two goals, and Michael Fuentes scored one goal as La Porte lost a hard-fought, back-and-forth game. Segovia scored the first goal, followed by two Eagles goals. Segovia’s second tally late in the first half tied the game at half, 2-2. Fuentes’ goal came midway through the second half.

Slicers boys soccer schedule change

La Porte’s boys soccer home match against Mishawaka on Saturday will start with the varsity, followed by a half of JV play. The varsity match will begin at 11 a.m.

Connelly stays hot in Blazers boys soccer win

Patrick Connelly continued his torrid scoring run, connecting for both Marquette goals Saturday in a 2-1 home win over Bethany Christian. Ian Baker had an assist and Liam Monroe made seven stops for the Blazers (9-1-2).

Marquette wins twice at VCA volleyball invite

Emily Lasky was selected to the Victory Christian Academy Invite All-Tournament team Saturday as the Blazers went 2-1 and finished fifth. Marquette fell to Washington Township 25-14, 25-22 in its opener, but rallied for sweeps over LaCrosse (25-22, 25-22) and River Forest (25-21, 25-18). Maggie Williams led the Blazers (12-13) in kills on the day with 13 and also tallied six digs. Ally McConnell recorded nine kills to go with nine digs. Bri Moyer racked up 21 digs and six aces, while Ryleigh Grott registered eight kills. Isabela Pacheco accounted for four aces and five digs.

Glenn boys soccer routs O-D

John Glenn’s boys soccer team drubbed Oregon-Davis 8-1 at home on Saturday. The Falcons Michael Day earned three goals, and Samuel Thomas had two goals and three assists. Chase Oden, Cole Taylor and Cayden Heckman all added a goal, and Oden recorded an assist. Joey Parker and Andrew Snyder tallied the win in goal. Parker played in the first half with no saves, and Snyder saw action in the second half with two saves.

Falcons girls soccer loses on PKs

John Glenn’s girls soccer team fell 3-2 to visiting South Bend Adams, losing on penalty kicks on Thursday night. The Falcons Morgan Plunkett and Seja Lang both scored a goal, and Leena Thomas had an assist. The match was tied 2-2 at the end of regulation and two, seven-minute overtime periods.

Bowling league needs team

The Casey’s Classic Scratch Bowling League is looking for one 4-person team to fill its league for the 2018-19 season. The league bowls on Tuesday nights starting at 6:30 p.m. at Casey’s Lanes in La Porte. The end of season prize fund has been increased. Dunes Volleyball Club Fall Ball clinic

Dunes Volleyball Club is hosting its annual Fall Ball volleyball clinic, Sundays through Oct. 7. Fall Ball acts as a supplement to middle school practices, and as a learning experience for elementary school players. Clinic will include specific skill instruction and competitive game play. Clinic is at the new facility, Dunes Events Center, 110 Clear Lake Blvd., La Porte. The Tikes Clinic will be from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and is for girls and boys in second grade and younger. Same-day sign-up is $55. The All-Skills Clinic will be from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and is for girls and boys in fifth-eighth grade. Same-day sign-up is $110.

The Newcomers Clinic will be from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and is for girls and boys in third-fourth grade. Same-day sign-up is $75. The Challenge Clinic is for advanced players to prepare for elite competition. It’ll be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and is for girls and boys in sixth-eighth grade. Same-day sign-up is $140. K of C Soccer Challenge

The Knights of Columbus of St. Michael Council in La Porte will hold its annual Soccer Challenge at the soccer field at Kesling Middle School on Saturday. The event is open for boys and girls ages 9-14. Registration will take place from 3:30-4 p.m. with the competition running from 4-5:30. Birth certificates are required.

Pumpkin Festival 3-on-3 basketball tourney

The annual Pumpkin Festival 3-on-3 basketball tourney will be at Westville High School on Sept. 30. It will have girls and boys divisions from 4th grade up to adult divisions. This will be double elimination and the entry fee is $75. Registration will begin around 7:30 a.m. with games around 8:15 a.m. Trophies will be given to first-place winners and T-shirts will be given to all participants. Night Golf at Valley Hills

Night Golf at Valley Hills Golf Course in Rolling Prairie will be Saturday. Tee off is at dark around 7:30 p.m. The public is welcomed. Interested people are asked to call ahead for reservations if you want, but it’s not required. First place is a 2019 season membership to Valley Hills Golf Course. 10th annual Bike Michiana for Hospice ride

The Center for Hospice Care and the Hospice Foundation announce the 10th Annual Bike Michiana for Hospice will take place on Sunday. It will start and finish at the Center’s Mishawaka Campus next to Central Park, along the scenic St. Joseph River.
