Woman With Multiple Personalities Awarded $295,000 in Sex Case
HOUSTON (AP) _ A former Roman Catholic charity official who had sex with a woman suffering from multiple personalities was ordered to pay her $295,000.
A jury said Tuesday that 69-year-old Morris Robichaux was negligent in initiating sex with Melanie Kramer in 1988 two days after she completed an 18- month stay in a mental hospital.
The former president of the St. Vincent DePaul Society at Corpus Christi Catholic Church had claimed that one of Ms. Kramer’s 10 personalities had encouraged his advances at her home, where he had gone to deliver a check from his charity.
But her lawyer, Mike Wisch, told jurors the case was about ″the abuse of power and an abuse of trust and an abuse of Melanie Kramer’s mental illness.″
Ms. Kramer’s psychiatrists testified that she suffered setbacks because of the episode and returned to the hospital.
