D.C. United, Fire in Scoreless Tie

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (AP) _ D.C. United’s Nick Rimando and the Chicago Fire’s Zach Thornton each made six saves Wednesday night as the teams played to a 0-0 tie for the second time in 11 days.

Rimando made a big save in the 36th minute when he stopped Jim Curtins’ 6-yard header.

D.C. United’s best scoring opportunity came from Bobby Convey in the 51st minute, but Thornton turned away the 15-yard attempt.

Chicago and D.C. also failed to score during their last meeting, July 20 at Cardinal Stadium.

Chicago (8-8-4) failed to take over first place in the Eastern Conference, while D.C. (6-11-3) remains in last place.
