Man charged in Lakewood bank robbery, police say
LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- A Cleveland man faces a robbery charge after a Thursday robbery at a Fifth Third Bank in Lakewood, police said.
Ahmed Mohammed Khafaga, 46, entered the branch at West 117th Street near Madison Avenue about 10 a.m., Lakewood police said in a statement.
He gave a teller a large brown shopping bag and a note that demanded hundred-dollar bills, according to the 911 call. The teller gave him $100, according to the woman during the 911 call. He left the bank and walked across the street.
“Everything just happened so fast,” a woman who witnessed the robbery said.
Police found Khafaga while they were still on the phone with the woman and arrested him at the West 117th and Madison Avenue RTA bus station, police said.
Khafaga is being held on $10,000 bond in Lakewood City Jail, police said. Court records do not say when he is expected to make his first appearance in court.
