Santa’s Sleigh has record year
Everyone participating in the Santa’s Sleigh program sponsored by Katy Christian Ministries was adopted for Christmas, said Becce Slinkard, KCM board secretary and volunteer for the annual holiday program.
“We kept adding kids,” said Slinkard. Santa’s Sleigh participants including seniors and children exceeded 700, she added, setting a record for the program.
A couple of bicycle clubs donated 100 bikes, she said, and another organization also stepped forward to donate another group of bikes. “We had a wonderful turnout.”
“We thank people for being so generous. It was a wonderful year. Katy Christian Ministries is so appreciative that people are stepping forward to help,” said Slinkard. “It’s very nice, very comforting and very refreshing.”
Several organization also conducted toy drives and brought their toys to Katy Christian Ministries. “We were able to supplement some of our gift bags,” said Slinkard. “That’s always great to have.”
Slinkard said lead volunteers are Leann Percivil and Teresa Wiens. The program falls under the supervision of Vickie Bernal, KCM social services director.
