Corpse Found Mutilated in Funeral Home
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (AP) _ Someone using a scalpel or razor removed the head from a body of an elderly man in a casket at a funeral home, authorities say.
Police Chief Howard McCoy said workers at the Yannantonuo Funeral Home discovered the mutilation of the body of Anthony Parisi, 83, when they went to prepare him for burial Saturday.
″I have never seen or heard anything like it in all my years as a policeman,″ McCoy said. Police knew of no motive.
Parisi, a co-founder of Parisi Brothers, a wholesale grocery company, died Wednesday of natural causes.
Deputy Westchester Medical Examiner Louis Roh said the head was removed by a sharp surgical tool, either a scalpel or a razor. He said other parts of the man’s body also had been damaged.
The chief said the incident apparently occurred Friday night. He said there was no sign of forced entry at the funeral home.
″The place was secure and the caretaker made periodic checks through the night,″ he said.
