Cowboys CBs Practice, May Play
IRVING, Texas (AP) _ Cornerbacks Kevin Smith and Kevin Mathis returned to practice for the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday and may be able to play Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
``I don’t know how much they’ll be able to contribute Sunday, but it was good to have them on the field and for them to stay on the field,″ coach Chan Gailey said. ``We’ll see how they feel tomorrow.″
Smith has missed the last two games and five of the last six with a strained right hamstring. If he’s cleared to play, he’ll start opposite Deion Sanders, as he did when Dallas lost to Minnesota 27-17 in November.
Mathis has been out the last three games because of a sprained left knee. He started the season’s first three games while Smith was out with a preseason injury.
Gailey said he hopes to know who can play by Thursday so the right people will get as much practice time as necessary.
``We don’t want to leave that dangling,″ he said. ``You’ve got to practice what you want to do.″
