Superintendent retires amid sexual harassment investigation
EVERETT, Mass. (AP) — A longtime Massachusetts school superintendent under investigation for complaints of sexual harassment has announced his retirement.
The city of Everett says Superintendent Frederick Foresteire disclosed he was stepping down in a letter dated Monday. That was the same day the school committee said it was placing him on leave.
The 75-year-old Foresteire has led the city’s school system since 1989.
The Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination has been investigating two complaints against Foresteire. One is from former Everett Public Schools Clerk Andrea Garay, who says he made sexual comments and touched her inappropriately.
Foresteire has denied the allegations.
The letter announcing his retirement was received by the city on Thursday.
